If you've been involved in therapy before, you have likely already experienced a wide variety of therapeutic frameworks... as well as a wide range of personalities that the therapist themselves bring into the therapeutic process.
I strongly believe in starting from a position of what you understand may be needed towards transforming your life.
I'll collaborate with you to refine what you need and will be transparent in how I believe we should intervene to reduce your suffering and create change. And, if I feel you may be better served by another therapist with different capabilities, I'll refer you to other therapists whose work I respect.
I essentially offer ‘talk therapy’.
Typically, I work from a CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) framework that is infused with a mindfulness perspective.
I also incorporate elements of Humanistic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems frameworks into my work.
I typically guide clients in building on what they experience in-session during the time between sessions by identifying things to consider, encouraging journaling and/or outlining specific 'homework'. The intent is to deepen your understanding and insight and/or give you the opportunity to practice building new skills and behaviours.
I believe in the power of psycho-education to guide our work and will direct you to resources (books, web-sites) to deepen your psychological knowledge.
In practice for 15+ years, I’ve developed a reputation for being a warm, intuitive and empathic therapist who is both highly collaborative and (gently) challenging according to a client’s need. Such challenges are borne from my belief that measured risks need to be taken by clients who are ‘stuck’ in familiar behaviours and/or ways of thinking that are contributing to their distress.
I bring my humanity into the therapeutic process and strive to be authentic and genuine in my work.
Therapy can be a demanding experience when someone is suffering, and so I don’t hesitate to invite some humour into the room or to celebrate the progress you are making towards your goals.
